WHO’S YOUR VENDOR?

This month’s topic is on getting to know your vendors, and why it is so important to establish a great working relationship with them from the first initial consultation until the moment they leave your wedding.
A wedding can not go on with out your vendors and while you will at least be working with 4 or more companies you need to make sure you have carefully hand selected them your self. A good majority of the time you will find a Wedding Venue who will offer an all exclusive package to the engaged couple and that will include your main vendors: Catering, DJ, Linens and a Bakery for the wedding cake. While this is an amazing thing to find and normally helps save on your wedding budget you need to make sure you do your research on each vendor the wedding venue has partnered up with. Type the companies name into a search engine and see what type of reviews pop up, ask your social networking friends, look on wedding specific sites and make sure you like what you find before signing your contract with the venue. Just because they are “in the package” does not mean you HAVE to use them for YOUR big day.
If you read all of the reviews and you like what you read about the company then set up your consultation, most vendors are happy to meet with you free of charge to win your business over. This is also a great opportunity to see if you will work well alongside this vendor and hear their input on your special day and how they can make it run smoothly for you.
Make sure to ask as many questions as possible before signing your contract so there are no unexpected surprises during the planning process! These are a few questions we always like to ask and have found help:
1. What is your cancellation policy?
2. What is your payment and deposit schedule?
3. When will you arrive to my ceremony/reception and when will you leave?
4. What is the best way to stay in contact and will we need to schedule other meetings?
5. What is the turn around time on my order? ( this could be for your photographer, videographer, or any item being custom made for the wedding.)
This is only a short list of questions but very helpful and by asking these questions it may lead to more or give you just the right amount of peace of mind you need to sign on the dotted line.
After signing your contract make sure you set up calendar alerts for any future meetings you will need to attend or if you need to email/ call them on a set date.
Although most vendors make you feel like you are the only couple they are working with you are not and it is just as much your responsibility as it is the vendors to communicate what you want, how you want it, where you want it, and if it is possible.
Once your wedding is through with and you are home from the honeymoon don’t forget to leave your vendors reviews! Just as you read and found them helpful so will the next Bride and depending where you leave the reviews you may get a free gift! A Splendid Event sends our sweet couples a free coffee from Starbucks and Wedding Wire gives you a free gift if you review 5 or more of your vendors through their website, and who doesn’t love free gifts?
Remember always: Read Reviews, Ask Questions, Communicate, and Leave a Review.
